As you may have seen in recent news an order signed by CDC Director Robert Redfield on January 12, 2021 states all passengers traveling by air into the United States must show proof of a negative COVID-19 test or proof they have recently recovered from the virus. Looking at this from a positive perspective, we know two things. First, and most importantly, this could be a great step to help slow the spread of COVID 19. Second, you have the KJ Travel team to help you navigate new testing requirements and logistics.

The fine print you need to know:

  • This applies to all travelers 2 years of age or older

  • Test must be taken no more than 3 days (72 hours) before your flight into the U.S.

  • Travelers must be tested with a viral test (NAAT or antigen test)

  • Be sure you will get your results back before your flights since you will have to show documentation of your test results to airline officials.

  • You may show a paper or electronic copy of your documentation.

  • If you have recently recovered from COVID-19 (in the past 3 months) and do not have any symptoms, instead of getting tested you may also show documentation of a positive test results and a letter from your healthcare provider stating you are clear to travel. This is being referred to as “documentation of recovery”.

  • This order applies to all commercial, private, and chartered flights entering the U.S. from a foreign country.

  • All passengers regardless of vaccination status are required to show proof of a negative COVID test or documentation of recovery.

  • This order will go into effect January 26, 2021
