What to Know When Planning a Trip to Greece

The world is starting to re-open for more international travel and Greece is now open for Americans as of May 14, 2021. If you are looking to plan a Greece vacation this summer, travelers are required to have either their vaccination, an antibody test, or a negative COVID-19 test. With that being said, here is the fine print of what you need to know in order to safely enter Greece and the steps that will follow.

Entry Requirements:

  • US travelers over the age of 5 must be fully vaccinated 14 days prior, have recent antibodies or obtain a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to their arrival.

  • Travelers must complete a Passenger Locator Form at least 48 hours prior to entering Greece.

  • United States citizens are not required to quarantine once they have arrived.

  • All visitors will be subject to random tests upon arrival.

  • There are no restrictions on intercity or interstate travel.

  • In order to travel back to the United States, a negative COVID-19 antigen test must be provided (children under the age of 2 years old are exempt from this).

What to expect:

  • The curfew has been pushed back and is now between the hours of 12:30 am and 5 am.

  • Museums and retail stores will be reopened. Retail stores are operating without appointments, but will still have limited capacity.

  • Restaurants are now open for outdoor dining. Indoor dining is allowed at hotels, as long as they only serve hotel guests.

  • Entertainment and music venues remain closed during this time.

  • Masks are to be worn both inside and outside.

I am beyond grateful that my husband and I worked with Kate as our travel advisor in the planning our 2 week trip to Greece and Italy. Her expertise in general travel tips as well as that of location-specific information, accommodations, activities and transportation options were invaluable. She has relationships and connections with locals which allowed us to experience way beyond what you find by reading Tripadvisor reviews. Everything was organized and planned while still having room for flexibility.

Greece cruises are a popular way to experience the islands. Several of our preferred cruising partners have announced plans for new sailings beginning this summer like luxury cruiselines Silversea and Regent and small yacht cruise company, Seadream Yacht Club with just 112 guests on board per voyage.

Post pandemic international travel is complicated. KJ Travel is staying up to date on all the restrictions and guidelines to ensure your best Greece family vacation. We are continually keeping our clients up to date on any new changes and working closely to ensure you can safely travel abroad, while also feeling comfortable with all the associated steps and precautions.
